AB5 is a law that bans the use of independent contractors, requiring businesses to make these contractors employees.  This bill impacts more than 150 professions, such as freelance journalists, musicians, screenwriters, court interpreters, tutors, app based drivers and many more.

Most independent contractors prefer to stay independent.  It gives them the freedom and flexibility to work around their schedules.  Many are students who need to work around school, or parents working around their child’s school schedule.  Some use it to supplement a full-time job and earn extra money.

The reality is that AB5 has put many of these people out of work.  There are all kinds of fixes in to amend AB5 for different professions, but the bottom line – if it needs that many fixes – it’s just a bad billed and needs to be repealed.
